International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21st June all over the world. This day is the longest day of the year and yoga also gives a long life to a human being. Usually Yoga Day is celebrated to make people aware of the benefits of yoga. The first International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2015. Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi proposed to celebrate June 21st as International Yoga Day in the year 2014. In the United Nations, Narendra Modi told the people around the world about the benefits of yoga and its importance.

United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) liked the proposal and accepted it on 21st June as International Yoga Day. After the recognition, a big event was held on 21st June 2015 at Rajpath, Delhi. The Prime Minister did yoga at Rajpath with about 36000 people. Yoga Day was celebrated by millions of people worldwide. 

The event set two Guinness World Records. The first record of International Yoga Day was made for the largest Yoga class, which was attended by about 35,985 participants and the second record was held by people from eighty-four (84) countries to participate in the event together.

The tradition of doing yoga has been going on since ancient times in India. Yoga reduces stress and anxiety. Yoga works like a medicine in the body, which gradually cure various diseases of our body by controlling the way our body parts work.

Yoga is beneficial for the mental, physical and emotional development of children. It is very important to do yoga to always be healthy. Doing yoga boosts the immunity system of the body. It empowers our body to fight against all kinds of diseases. Therefore doing yoga is very important for the health of all of us. All of us should do yoga daily to maintain our health.
