Introduction: Rani Lakshmi Bai was a brave Indian woman. She was the queen of the Maratha-ruled kingdom. Rani Lakshmi Bai is also known as Maharani of Jhansi (Jhansi Ki Rani). Rani Lakshmi Bai had sacrificed her life fighting the British in the freedom struggle of 1857. Rani Lakshmi Bai’s real name was Manubai.

Place of Birth and Parents: Rani Lakshmi Bai was born on 19 November 1828 in Varanasi. His father's name was Moropant Tambe and mother's name was Bhagirathibai. Rani Lakshmi Bai’s childhood name was Manikarnika but affectionately called her as Manu.
Upbringing and Education: After the death of Rani Lakshmi Bai's mother, Rani Lakshmi Bai's father took her to the court of Peshwa Bajirao II. He spent all his childhood under the roof of Peshwa Bajirao. In the court of Peshwa Bajirao, Lakshmi Bai was called "Chhabili". Laxmi Bai started taking education of weapons along with the education of scriptures since childhood. She was skilled in wielding swords, spears, guns and other types of weapons.
Married life: Lakshmi Bai was married in 1842 to Gangadhar Rao Newalkar, the Maratha ruled king of Jhansi. She became the queen of Jhansi after getting married, hence she is known as Rani of Jhansi (Jhansi Ki Rani). She was named Lakshmi Bai only after her marriage. After marriage they had a son who died at the age of four months. After the death of the son, he/she adopted a son who was named Damodar Rao. After some time, Maharaja Gangadhar Rao died due to ill health.
British Invasion: After the death of King Gangadhar Rao, the British wanted to rule Jhansi, because the British did not want their adopted son to become the legal heir to the throne of Jhansi. Even after the revolt of the British, Rani Lakshmi Bai did not lose courage and was determined to protect the state of Jhansi.
1857 Freedom Struggle: India's first freedom struggle started in 1857. The British attacked to capture Jhansi. Rani Lakshmi Bai started the formation of a volunteer army for the protection of Jhansi, in which women were also included. Rani Lakshmi Bai herself gave war training to everyone, after that Rani Lakshmi Bai attacked the British with her soldiers. Rani Lakshmi Bai fought boldly with the British.
Died: In the freedom struggle of 1857, Rani Laxmibai attained martyrdom on 18 June 1858 while fighting the British and became an inspiration for the women of the country.
