Rabindranath Tagore was a great patriot, poet, novelist, philosopher, painter, playwright, essayist, short story writer, politician, musician etc. all in one. Rabindranath Tagore, popularly known and called as Gurudev. The Indian National Anthem Jana Ganga Mana was written by him. He was a great lover of his country and children.

Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7th May 1861 in Jorasanko in Calcutta (Kolkata). His father’s name was Debendranath Tagore and his mother’s name was Sarada Devi. He was the 14th child of his parents.

Rabindranath Tagore took his education at home under private teachers for various subjects. He went to England to study, but he returned from there without completing the studies. He started writing from his early age.

Rabindranath Tagore became the first Indian to receive Nobel Prize in 1913 for the great writing of "Gitanjali". He and his works are famous all around the world. He had travelled extensively in different countries of Europe, America and Asia and delivered lectures in Universities and public meeting on education.

He had declared, “My country that is forever India, the country of my forefathers, the country of my children, my country has given me life and strength.” And again, “I shall be born in India again. He died on 7th August 1941. He was mainly interested in two things the human relationship and the motherland.
