Introduction: Sarojini Naidu was a great freedom fighter, politician, poet and writer. She is also known as Nightingale of India. She played an important role in the field of literature and poetry. Sarojini Naidu is known to inspire feminism. She believed in equality and justice for all. Her birthday is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm as ‘National Women's Day' in India.

Birth place and Parents: Sarojini Naidu was born on 13th February 1879 in a Bengali family in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Her father's name was Aghorenath Chattopadhyay, who was a teacher and her mother's name was Varada Sundari Devi, who was a Bengali poet.
Education: Sarojini Naidu was good in studies since childhood. She completed her matriculation examination in 1891 when she was only twelve years old. In 1895, Sarojini Naidu went to England for higher education. She studied first at King's College in London and then at Girton College, Cambridge.
Married Life: Returning to India in 1898, She married Muttayala Govindarajulu Naidu in the same year. After marriage they had three sons and two daughters.
Literature and Poetry : Sarojini Naidu has made significant contributions in the field of literature and poetry. She was fond of writing poems since childhood. Sarojini Naidu used to write many poems for children. The poetry works "The Bird of Time", "In the Bazaars of Hyderabad" published in 1912 and "The Broken Wing" published in 1917 became very popular.
Independence/Freedom Movement: Sarojini Naidu was a great freedom fighter. She met Rabindranath Tagore, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Mahatma Gandhi during India's freedom movement. Gandhi's thoughts greatly influenced Sarojini Naidu. Influenced by Gandhi's thoughts, she devoted herself to the country. She played the role of an important leader in movements such as the Civil Disobedience Movement and the Quit India Movement. During the independence/freedom movement, Sarojini Naidu had filled the feeling of patriotism in the minds of people by writing poetry and giving speeches.
Death: Sarojini Naidu died on 2nd March 1949 at the age of 70 due to a heart attack. The name of Sarojini Naidu will always be remembered in the history of India.
