Introduction: Lata Mangeshkar was one of the great singers in the world. She was an Indian playback singer. Her excellent singing and unique voice has fans all over the world. Lata Mangeshkar is also known as 'Queen of Melody', 'Swar-Empress' and 'Nightingale of India' due to her melodious singing. People used to call Lata Mangeshkar affectionately as 'Lata Didi'.

Birthplace and Family: Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 in a Marathi family in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, India. Her father's name was Deenanath Mangeshkar and mother's name was Shevanti Mangeshkar. She had 1 younger brother and 2 younger sisters. Lata Mangeshkar was never married.
Education: Lata Mangeshkar went to school only once in her life, after that she did her entire education from home. However, she has been awarded honorary doctorate from 6 universities of the world.
Childhood and Struggle: Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore but brought up in Maharashtra. When she was 13 years old, her father passed away. After the death of her father, she had to face a lot of struggles. Being the eldest of the siblings, all the responsibility of the family had now fallen on her. She started having a lot of money problems. She loved acting, so she started acting in some Marathi and Hindi films and also did playback singing to support the household.
Singing Field: Lata Mangeshkar wanted to become a singer since childhood. Her father was also a theater artist and singer, so Lata Mangeshkar also choose music for her career and livelihood. In 1948 she started doing playback singing. She has sung more than 30000 songs in more than 20 languages. She always sang barefoot.
Famous Songs: There are many songs like A Mere Watan Ke Logan, Allah Tero Naam, Satyam-Shivam-Sundaram, A-Dil-E-Nadan, Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai, which can be listened to continuously.
Awards: Padma Bhushan in 1969, The Guinness Book of Records Award for Most Songs in the World in 1974, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993, Maharashtra Bhushan in 1997, Padma Vibhushan in 1999, Bharat Ratna in 2001. Apart from this, she has been honored with many other awards.
Death: She passed away on February 6, 2022, after 28 days of treatment for COVID-19 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. At that time her age was 92 years. Her contribution in the field of singing in India can never be forgotten.
