Introduction: India Gate is the national monument of independent India. It is also known as All India War Memorial. India Gate was formerly known as Kingsway. This monument is 42 meters high and the top of the India Gate has ‘INDIA’ written in capital letters on both sides. This memorial was built in the memory of the soldiers who died in the First World War and Afghan war. Tributes are paid to the martyrs at India Gate. This grand monument is located on the Rajpath of Delhi. India Gate is counted amongst the largest war memorials in India.

When and why was it made: The construction of India Gate was completed in 1931, which was designed by Edwin Lutyens. This monument was built by the British rulers in the memory of 90,000 Indian soldiers who died in the First World War and the Afghan War. The names of 13,300 soldiers are written on this India Gate. A soldier's cap is placed on top of a rifle beneath this monument. The 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' is always burning at the four corners of the rifle. India Gate is made of red and yellow sandstone.
Tourist places: India Gate is currently one of the important tourist destinations of India. Thousands of tourists from all over the world come to Delhi to see India Gate and pay homage to the martyrs. The view of India Gate in the evening looks very beautiful.
