The festival of Dussehra falls in the month of September or October just two or three weeks before the festival of Diwali. Lord Rama had killed Ravana on this day and Goddess Durga had conquered Mahishasur after a nine-night war.

Dussehra festival is celebrated with many customs and rituals. Nine days of Navratri is also known as Durga puja when goddess Durga Mata is worshipped in her nine forms. Some people keep fast for nine days to get the blessing of Goddess Durga Mata. Statues of Mahishasura and Mata Durga are established in the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand etc. Prasad is distributed to people after worshiping. After 9 days, the statue of Durga Mata and Mahishasura is immersed by their devotees. Apart from this, Ramlila is organized for 7 days or months in many places.
The Schools, colleges and offices are closed for a few days in Dussehra. People celebrate this festival with great joy and enthusiasm. The tenth day of this festival is celebrated throughout India with the burning of effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnath. This festival indicates the victory of goodness over badness mean triumph of truth over evil power.
