Navratri festival is very important Hindu festival and celebrated all over the country. Navratri festival is celebrated to worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga. there are nine names of Goddess Durga : Shailputri, brahmacharini, kushmanda, katyayani, kalratri, mahagauri, siddhidatri. These forms are also called Navdurga. This festival is celebrated for 9 nights and 10 days. Navratri is a Sanskrit word in which "Nav" means nine days and Ratri means night. The last day of this festival is celebrated as vijayadashmi of Dussehra.
The first story is that during the times of Navratri Durga had conquered Mahishasur and the second story is that all the Vanar Cena (monkeys) including Ram, Lakshman, Hanuman worship goddess Durga from Ashwin Shukla pratipada till 9th (Navami) and after that Lord Ram slaughtered Ravan on the 10th day.
Navratri festivals are celebrated twice in our country. The first festival of Navratri is celebrated in chaitra month and the second festival of Navratri is celebrated in Ashwin month.
During Navratri festival duty keep fasting by drinking fruit or water. In many places on the ninth day of Navratri also do "Kanya Pujan". In this worship 9 little girls are worshipped as Goddess Durga. In many states of India the pandals of Durga Maa are made. People go there and worship goddess Durga. people All Around The World come to attend Navratri in India. on the 10th day Idol of Durga in water.
